Artist and amateur sleuth Leila Goodfriend escapes to a remote Caribbean island paradise expecting an idyllic holiday with Detective John Grace—her partner in romance and criminal investigation. But beneath the island’s turquoise waters and sunlit charm, sinister forces are at work.

As Leila is suiting up for her first scuba dive at Captain Bob’s Dive Shop, she overhears shop employees whispering about a local diver who was fished out of the ocean after he had a seizure and drowned. It was just gossip, she thinks, but it turns out that this suspicious death isn’t the only one.

Leila encounters Elvis, a friendly, dreadlocked barista, at a hole in the wall shop called Java Java. She finds herself drawn by Elvis into a dangerous plan, stumbling on evidence linking pollution, corruption and crime to the deaths of local young men—including Raoul, the brother of Maritsa Kroon, a beautiful young woman scarred by brutality and terrified of retaliation. When violence erupts, who wears the white coat—and who wears the black?
